Project info

This bespoke kitchen was designed and made for a home in the Forest of Dean, developed in collaboration with Run Wild Interiors. The project centred on creating a calm, light-filled space tailored to passionate home cooks, where thoughtful layout and durable materials support everyday use while maintaining a restrained, cohesive aesthetic.

The design prioritises clarity and function. Cabinetry is arranged to maximise working space and circulation, ensuring the kitchen performs efficiently during both daily cooking and larger gatherings. Storage has been carefully considered throughout, allowing equipment and ingredients to be easily accessed while keeping the room visually calm.

Fully integrated appliances are concealed within the cabinetry, including the dishwasher and fridge freezer. This approach allows the kitchen to read as a continuous architectural element rather than a collection of individual appliances, reinforcing the clean and composed character of the room.

The colour palette was developed with Run Wild Interiors using Farrow and Ball paints. Subtle pink tones are balanced with deeper green cabinetry, creating a layered scheme that feels warm without becoming overpowering. Fluted tiles introduce texture behind the work surfaces, breaking up the painted cabinetry while adding a gentle rhythm to the space.

Material detailing plays an important role throughout the design. Custom solid walnut handles provide a warm contrast against the painted cabinet fronts, introducing a tactile element that reinforces the handcrafted nature of the kitchen. Their darker tone anchors the palette while highlighting the natural grain of the timber.

Quartz worktops were selected for their durability and clean surface, providing a robust working area suited to regular cooking. The subtle patterning of the quartz complements the surrounding materials without distracting from the overall composition of the room.

Durability and longevity were also central considerations during construction. Blum hardware is used throughout the cabinetry, providing smooth, reliable operation and long-term performance. These components allow drawers and doors to function precisely while remaining discreet within the design.

Natural light plays a significant role in the character of the space. The layout allows light to move freely through the kitchen, reinforcing the softness of the colour palette and highlighting the variation within the materials. As the light shifts throughout the day, the tones of the painted cabinetry and walnut handles respond subtly, bringing depth to the room without introducing visual complexity.

The completed kitchen balances practicality with a restrained design language. By combining thoughtful planning, durable materials and carefully resolved detailing, the project creates a space that supports everyday cooking while remaining calm, welcoming and enduring.
